is one of India’s oldest and most respected classical dance forms, with roots in the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu in Southern India. It is deeply rooted in ancient traditions and follows the principles of the Natya Shastra, an ancient text on performing arts written by Sage Bharata.
This graceful art form draws inspiration from Sanskrit literature and temple sculptures, with many of its poses depicted in the stone carvings of South Indian temples. The name Bharatanatyam reflects its core elements: Bha for Bhava (expression), Ra for Raga (melody), and Ta for Tala (rhythm).
Today, Bharatanatyam thrives as a living tradition — practiced and cherished around the world. Through storytelling, music, and rhythm, it continues to inspire new generations with its timeless beauty and spiritual depth.
